Herbs for Cognitive Health

In this blog post, I’m sharing some of my favorite herbs to support cognitive health, reduce brain fog, promote mental clarity, and enhance memory.

These herbs enhance cerebral blood flow, support the integrity of the nervous system, and provide the body with healthful nutrients that protect against damage.

Ginkgo/Ginkgo biloba: I love that ginkgo grows all over New York City! Fun fact: 10% of all trees in Manhattan are ginkgo. Ginkgo is a top notch antioxidant & improves the brain’s metabolism of glucose and oxygen. Caution: careful with ginkgo if you take anticoagulants or antiplatelets.

Gotu kola/Centella asiatica: I love that gotu kola is an adaptogen (helps the body adapt to stress). Gotu kola strengthens the nervous system, but has a relaxing effect at the same time. Gotu kola is also a connective tissue repairer, so it’s healing both internally and externally.

Rosemary/Rosmarinus officinalis: I love that rosemary is a culinary herb that you most likely already have in your kitchen cupboard or in your garden. Rosemary is very tonifying to the blood vessels & enhances blood flow significantly. Caution: rosemary may inhibit iron absorption.

How to use these herbs:

All three of these herbs can be used beautifully in a tea. Very easy. Tinctures and capsules are also great ways to enjoy the benefits of these herbs.
