The Best Herbs To Manage Blood Sugar

Here’s an overview of my favorite clinically-backed herbs to manage blood sugar naturally.

Herbs are powerful—Nature’s medicine and a true gift.

Managing blood sugar and improving insulin sensitivity is key to reversing insulin resistance, stopping pre-diabetes, and healing diabetes. It’s also key to future-proofing your health and living the highest quality of life that you deserve.

Herbs help to manage blood sugar by doing one or more of the following:

🌿Helping the body increase insulin production

🌿Enhancing the body’s sensitivity to insulin

🌿Slowing down he body’s production of glucose

🌿Blocking glucose absorption

This blog post is for you if you desire to lower your blood sugar levels & stun your doctor the next time you get your fasting blood glucose & HbA1c levels checked.

These are the herbs I most often use with my Naturopathic patients in private practice & with my PCOS clients who have insulin resistance or pre-diabetes in my group coaching program.

Cinnamon: Cinnamon removes sugar from your bloodstream to your cells & helps your cells better respond to insulin, thereby increasing insulin sensitivity.

Gymnema: Gymnema stimulates your pancreas to produce more insulin & reduces the amount of glucose that your intestines absorb. Gymnema also reduces your ability to taste sweetness & makes sweets less appealing.

Goat's rue: Goat’s rue reduces blood glucose levels & promotes insulin secretion. Goat’s rue helped lead the development of the infamous metformin, an anti-hyperglycemic drug used to treat type 2 diabetes, thanks to its active component, guanidine. Metformin is a biguanide agent.

Fenugreek: Fenugreek lowers blood sugar by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas & improving insulin sensitivity. Fenugreek also slows digestion & delays gastric emptying, which slows down the body’s absorption of sugar.

Turmeric: Turmeric contains antioxidant & anti-inflammatory properties that correct insulin resistance by making cells more responsive to insulin. Turmeric improves the function of pancreatic beta cells & protects them from destruction.

American Ginseng: American ginseng lowers blood sugar by improving pancreatic cell function & by increasing insulin production. American ginseng helps the body transport glucose from the bloodstream to the cells and reduces insulin resistance.

Bitter melon: Bitter melon lowers blood sugar levels through its insulin-like constituent called polypeptide-P and another called charantin, which removes glucose from the bloodstream. Bitter melon also helps your cells use glucose better.

Barberry: Barberry’s active constituent, berberine, increases the ability of cells to better use blood sugar, increases insulin production, enhances insulin sensitivity, regulates glucose metabolism, and inhibits the absorption of sugars by the intestines.

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to work with a trusted provider who possesses expert-level knowledge of plant medicine to ensure you’re taking the right herbs for your unique health goals, how much to take, what form is best to take them (tea, tincture, capsule, etc.), how they’ll interact with your current medications, how to decrease the likelihood of adverse side effects, etc.

My private clients trust me to help them incorporate herbs safely & effectively into their wellness plans, so they can heal from patterns of high blood sugar levels and dysfunctional insulin regulation, and achieve lasting health transformation.

I’ll show you how you can do the same.
